You can't lower shrink if you are hiding in the manager's office.

Most managers do store walks and never see or talk to a customer. After that, they hide in their office. Wonder why you have shrink. Wonder why customers dropped products before they get to the register because the line is too long. Wonder why employees have low morale. Look around and connect with people.

I like your approach to the shoplifter,, and I like it for those frequent flyers we recognize,, but what do you do about those we don’t recognize but suspect ?

As an employee for the last @20 years at the same store, it’s been very frustrating and sad seeing theft go rampant, increase, and no pro activity on the part of corporate. We get a LP officer maybe once every 6 months,, and we see theft multiple times a day. Management TRIES to do something but in reality we can do nothing,, 99% of the time the shoplifter or thief just walks right out.

I was the Inventory and stock controller, Store Auditor, Loss Prevention. For lack of a suitable title it is generally called as Loss Prevention Dept. you might aswell call them SECURITY OFFICERS. They are no way connected with any other control of loss. Wondering why honesty in employment is shunned. Bills don't pay themselves, beyond angry over prejudiced people and terrible hiring practices. Seems to me that corporations don't appreciate employees who are honest. Corporate shrinkage is one of business's biggest problems, been to countless meetings about shrinkage. Hey, it's a choice to hire dishonest people. Literally.

Honest people don't steal.

Best bet is to hire a good determined fella,, pay him pretty good,, give him full control to hire his own guys, do his own practices and policys,,,, and if there ever is an issue ,, all store employees ever do is notify the guy or call him if theres suspension or issues,,,,so employees are more apt to protect the store knowing they never have to get involved,, and people like the drama only to watch ...

To say that a theft and an employee live in the same geography and they all know each other is like saying guilty by association. I mean think about it. Why would you hire these group of associates that know the lazy thieves ? Like how could that be trusted. You already setting your store for failure.

Some of that is true. But that's bs to say that shoplifter and employees know each other. I been in retail 10 years and that's a great way to see things from your perspective which is bullshit. When there's a lot more cause to shrink other then theft. What about providing customer service to unsatisfied customer and not scanning produce out that need to be accounted for. Would you consider a manger that's lazy and not scanning product out to be an act of theft ?

Entry level employees typically dont commit fraud usually , it does happen but is not as common as losses from shoplifters. My safeway looses more money due to shoplifting

I want to know about different variables in various fields to check in with a few inventory control planners and determine what variables they use to determine their forecasts and planning models. Similarities in diverse fields would help you here, but i want to check dependent vs independent natures out there.

Another "S" is "Safety". Unless you consider "Sanitation"and "Safety" to be the same group (such as making sure things won't fall onto people and cause injuries). Thanks for the tips. What I liked most, is how over-the-top and awkward you made the conversation with the suspect. I LOVE the idea of introducing them to another co-worker, that is golden! This is a GREAT idea, because shy people tend to "water down" the methods to quicker, shorter and simpler conversations, so by making yours so detailed, repetitive and long, when those people cut it down, they may still go beyond the normal or "barely good enough" rather than going to an "ineffective" level of engagement.

Lol way too easy to just talk talk and talk. In reality retail job doesn't really work anywhere close to whatever has been explained in this video. Retail in US is so out dated and really the corporate culture is corrupt and store manager are old aged and old minded as i can see in this video, companies will never ever progress or will ever control their shrink and inventory.
